Aren't we Lucky?
by Sandy Shirley Abernethy
Dear children of the maple leaf
please lend to me an ear
We lose a little freedom, friends
with every passing year.
The City of Kawartha Lakes,
a title oh so grand,
Was thrust into our faces.
We just don't understand!
Chorus:
Aren't we so very lucky
In this country so divine
To have the mighty wisdom
As is in the party line?
The schoolhouse too has felt the pinch
with discipline long gone
Our teachers sure must ask themselves
just why they carry on.
The Bible and the golden rule
not relevant today
But if it's party policy
I guess we have to say:
(Chorus)
Our health care, once the greatest,
now in sad disarray
When from these halls of healing
patients now get turned away
If twice as many doctors trained
to increase competition
Do we dare think such a move
would help such a condition?
(Chorus)
Firearm registration, too
has naught to do with crime;
'Twill cost the honest taxpayer
a lot of cash and time.
This blatant dictatorial scheme
is totally unsound
All it will do is drive the
situation underground
(Chorus)
Election time our politicians
swear that if elected
They'dll do their best and all the rest
but as we all suspected
Eight short years in office
gives a lifetime salary
They'll represent us if it's within
Their party policy
(Chorus)
