In our continuing effort to persuade the provincial government that a majority of citizens wish to de-amalgamate and restore our former structure of municipal government, a number of private citizens have invited The Voices of Central Ontario (VOCO) to conduct a citizen-initiated referendum in the former municipality of Bobcaygeon-Verulam. Mr. Trevor Harrison, Chairman of the "YES" Committee of the Referendum Campaign of VOCO, has announced this referendum will be held at the offices of the former Municipality of Bobcaygeon-Verulam, in Bobcaygeon on Saturday, July 28, 2001. Mr. Harrison said that this would be the first of many such citizen-initiated referenda throughout the former Victoria County. "Our goal is to provide the citizens of what was once known as the Municipality of Bobcaygeon-Verulam, the opportunity to express their opinion about this forced amalgamation through the ballot box," said Mr. Harrison. "A significant way we can do that is to hold a referendum. The Harris government has consistently denied the people of our communities any meaningful opportunity to express a majority opinion about what has been dictated by Queen's Park and executed by an appointee, Mr. Harry Kitchen," continued Mr. Harrison. "We believe the people cannot be denied the right to express this opinion," he concluded.
The question to be asked will be clear and understandable. It is to be answered
with a simple "YES" or "NO"response. The proposed question is stated below:
