Even in the current climate of political corruption and scandals, Dalton McGuinty's record of lies and broken promises is remarkable. Here is why we have chosen these as his "top 3 lies"
- To respect local democracy
If politicians are allowed to ignore the ballot box, democracy is dead.
- To fund autistic services
In this case, McGuinty is appealing a court decision which would have implemented his written promise.
- Taxpayers protection act
Having broken his promise, and violated the Taxpayer Protection Act, McGuinty has also now achieved a court precedent: it is not the role of the courts to intervene to enforce promises and pledges. Our only recourse is the ballot box (see #1). If there are no consequences for those who lie to get elected, how can the public make an informed choice?
