Dear Friends and Neighbours,

It has recently come to our attention that a Report was commissioned and submitted to Council for enactment with regards to a FINAL MASTER FIRE PLAN for the City Of Kawartha Lakes. Such report was designated as: Report ES2009-10 "Master Fire Plan 2010 -2017"

With the abundance of rural and seasonal ratepayers in this Municipality, we have circulated a recent newsletter from the Victoria County Voices chapter of VOCO with information we believe would also be of interest to all. While there were several areas of concern, we would particularly like to draw your attention to the following, found on pg 5 of the report. (The report in its’ entirety is available from City Hall )

We’d like to request that you please bring these things, especially the fire concerns, to the attention of your fellow members and neighbours, many of whom have not been around over the winter months.

"There is an agreement in place. I think we have a responsibility to respect those contracts," McGuinty said.

"I guess the alternative is we could introduce legislation in the House and say, `You signed a deal and we signed a deal, it is no longer convenient for us to respect that deal.' So, where does that take you?"

Government officials can't just change their mind whenever they feel like it, McGuinty added.

McGuinty Lie #201:
I simply committed to ensuring that local people would have the right to decide on the future of their municipality....I have committed that a Liberal government will ensure a binding referendum is held to allow local citizens to determine whether or not to dismantle the amalgamated city.

The referendum was held. The people voted "YES!" to de-amagalamate. McGuinty's Liberals refuse to acknowlege a democratic vote.
"Is de-amalgamation, or the recreation of Carleton County, the answer to poor governance in Ottawa?"

The following is excerpted from the October / November issue of The Landowner Magazine

"In the last municipal election, the Carleton Landowners Association had a promise from mayoral candidate Larry O'Brian to correct the City's governance problems in 18 months, or hold a referendum on de-amalgamation. Mr. O'Brian was elected mayor largely with the support of rural voters. More than 18 months have passed, the governance problems have not been solved, and there has been no referendum....

In the spring of 2009, the Mayor's task force on governance found that "City council is ineffective and dysfunctional, and unless changes are made to the way the city is governed, it will continue to languish in a state of disarray and eventually degenerate into complete chaos'"
