VOCO Goes to Queen's Park

De-amalgamation petition presented in Legislature by Liberal and NDP Members

What can I do?

...Come to Queen's Park ...
On October 23, 2003, a busload of VOCO supporters went to Queen's Park to deliver another 5000 signatures on petitions to the Ontario Legislature at Queens' Park.

The delegation was met by MPPs Mike Colle, Greg Sorbara and Ted McMeekin of the Liberals, and Michael Prue and Marilyn Churley of the NDP. Although he had been notified in advance of our visit, our MPP Chris Hodsgon was not there to greet us on our arrival.

As the delegation watched from the Visitors' Gallery, the petition was presented 8 times, by members of both opposition parties. During question period, both Mr. McMeekin and Mr. Colle directed questions to Mr. Hodgson referring to the petition, and to the results of the citizen-initiated referendum .

Their questions, and Mr. Hodgson's answers can be read, verbatim, in Hansard

At a press conference in the media room at Queen's Park, VOCO spokepersons Lynne Boldt, Faye McGee and John Panter discussed the forced amalgamation and creation of the City of Kawartha Lakes with Messrs McMeekin and Colle.
